In fact, I anticipate that you will be so gobsmacked that you won't believe it's true. I bet you'll open PhotoShop or Graphic Converter or Paint and call its bluff. I know I did.
But before you go and do that, some kind person has saved you the trouble. You can see the image broken-down and tested-out here. And if you're still reeling in disbelief, visit the website of the illusion's creator, Professor Edward H. Adelson, where he explains how it works.
September 17/2002 (2:38 PM) ~ posted by JP You may have noticed I haven't been around lately so I figured I'd come by and make my slacking official. I'm going on hiatus for a while (not sure how long) to deal with some personal stuff, as always Sean will hold down the fort while I'm gone. I will be answering my email so feel free to drop me a line to say hi or if you want to fill in for me by contributing a column or two to Food.
September 2/2002 (9:26 PM) ~ posted by Sean I'm back from vacation, and am resuming my duties as link-of-the-day comptroller. Expect new and chunky internet goodness every day of the week! Fresh music reviews, too!
As always, the Food, Music, Books and Comics editors are looking for more writers who wish to contribute regularly, now, or then to contribute to their respective areas. Contact them via the links above.
