In Memoriam

The area around my apartment is buzzing with activity today. People are running around with clipboards, huge trucks are parked outside my window, entire tables of food are randomly appearing and dissapearing in my front foyer, and mysterious people have been knocking on my door making odd requests.

My apartment building, you see, has been temporarily turned into a full fledged film set. The street has been blocked for most of the day, I had to duck and weave around all manner of lights, cables and film crew just to get into my apartment.

It's not just any movie, either, it's a movie starring James Woods. Not only that, they're shooting in my friend Ted's apartment, and doing makeup in the apartment of Tangmonkey's very own Ash. They're trying to pass off my Montreal apartment as one in New York, with James Woods playing former New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani.

Walking past the set, I got to hear James Woods' distinct, gravelly voice repeatedly saying "Yeah, it's out of here!" as I assume his character was watching a baseball game. I then got to see him with my own eyes as he walked out to get his dinner.

While not one to really get starstruck, it was a very interesting to encounter someone I'd seen in so many movies, and who I ultimately respect as an actor. The whole concept of seeing my apartment, my home, in a movie is undeniably cool.

The movie is to be entitled "Rudy's War" about Giuliani's involvement with the events of September 11th. The scene shot in my apartment is a flashback scene where Rudy visits a friend back in 1994. It should be coming out in the very distant future - keep an eye out for it.

As for me, I'm off to battle aliens on a faraway planet.
