I've started a food blog webring hosted right here on tangmonkey, it's called FOODBLOGGERS and it's basically gonna be a listing of food blogs plus a bit of a community aspect via the forum. So far there are a few sites listed with more joining every day. If you're a blogger or a blog reader give us a try!

I added Google sitesearch to the site today. Since the site only gets crawled by google now and then some of the links are out of date, especially those to the forum and other things that have been changed around recently. The search is pretty accurate now and it'll get better with time. Try it out, right over there:

Some of you may have seen the Link-of-the-Day pointer to ready.gov, the American government's darkly hysterical guide to "what might happen" -- i.e. what to be scared of, how much to freak out, and how many civil liberties you should hand over. "Duck and cover!" indeed.

Idlewords has done a terrific take-off of the site, well worth bringing to your attention. Never has making fun of icons been so entertaining! (Biological / Chemical / Explosions / Nuclear / Radiation threats)

If a chemical weapon follows you home, try to act casual.

TM FORUM IS BACK

Now I'm going to bed, as always report problems to me. It's a new piece of software called phpBB and hopefully it'll be better than the last thing we had. It seems more solid so far but let's not get our hopes too high. I switched because the Ikonboard was crapping out and the support community was in the process of imploding.

Dammit, some users were reporting errors on the board so I tried to fix them but the support forums for ikonboard (our forum software) are down! Long story short, the forum is down, probably for up to a week, I'm really sorry, I know some of you were really getting back into it. It won't be long and this time I'll make sure everything's tikityboo before relaunching it.

Oh, I forgot to mention, the new forum allows users to post POLLS! I think this is a great feature so I've created Polltown USA, a magical place where you can post polls or just browse around answering them. Now get to it and post some wacky polls! (note: in order to make Polltown a success I've had to disallow poll posting in all other forums but you can still post them in Polltown and link to them from other forums).

Argh, I've gotta stop doing this. I stayed up all night working on the forum again and I think I've got the major problems licked. I downgraded to Ikonboard 2.2rc3a from yesterday's upgrade and with a bit of fidling I got all the posts back and things should be pretty stable now. Idealy I'd like to upgrade back to Ikonboard 3.11 which seems to be the bees knees but the upgrade process is a finicky bitch. We'll see, I might just leave it as is if it proves to be decently stable. Let me know if anything fucks up or if you notice any weirness. Don't bother mentioning graphical stuff though, I'm already aware that many of the graphics don't match and the colours are all wrong. I'm goign to bed now, good morning.

Ugh... I've been doing a bunch of maintenance on the site these past few days and tonight I decided to tackle the forum which has been fuct for quite some time. Now, the good news is that I've upgraded the forum to the newest version of newspro and it should be much more stable now than before. The bad news is that many of the posts that were missing from the other forum are still missing. Fear not, I'm confident they're in the backup of the old forum someplace, I'll just have to root around a bit before adding them back in. Secondly we've lost the beautiful graphics and colour scheme that neale worked so hard on, those too will return shortly however I'm just too damn tired right now. Goodnight.

This morning, I excitedly read that the upcoming reissue of The Beatles' Let It Be will be re-engineered so as to remove some of the sappy, overbearing and song-ruining production by Phil Spector. Spector, who was given free reign on the recordings by John Lennon, has long been criticized for the way he destroyed great songs such as McCartney's "Long and Winding Road" and "Let It Be".

Anyway - this sounded like great news. "I hate Phil Spector!" I yelled. "At last he'll be gone!"

Then I went to CNN.com and read that Spector was just arrested for murder. It's been a bad week for Phil, I guess.

HIGH FLIGHT

by John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

"This poem was written by a young American, John Gillespie Magee, Jr., who flew with the Royal Canadian Air Force in England at the Start of WW II. He was killed shortly after he composed 'High Flight.' "

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds -- and done a hundred things you have not dreamed of -- wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence.

Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace where never lark, or even eagle flew.

And while with silent, lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
