Avocados

Well, I'm growing avocados now, the pits are suspended in water as described here, along with the hunidome full of germinating seeds my room is starting to look like a real science project. Oh, you'll all be pleased to hear that my freshly transplanted basil survived the weekend outside! Normaly you're supposed to "harden" plants before putting them out for long stretches of time by putting them out for a few hours each day and getting them used to it slowly but since basil is tough and I don't really know what I'm doing I just stuck 'em out there and took off for the weekend! Oh, I just read this about avocado plants, no fruit, what a waste! Here I was thinking I'd be knee-deep in guac come winter! Oh well, I guess it'll be purdy (and useless to boot!).

Went to Hannah's Bella Bistro for dinner while in Waterloo, tasty food, check out the tapas platter for two, enough for a light meal in itself and different every time depending on what's in season and how Hannah's feeling (don't order during rat poison season or when hannah's in a pissy mood). I had the venisson tenderloin (bambi to you youngsters) and it was pretty good but considering the cost ($32) it really wasn't anything special, just another meat and potatoes dish (well, a really GOOD meat and potatoes dish with a port reduction). I don't know if I've mentioned this here before but I'm starting to get bored of steak and big chunks of meat in general, it's just so boring. Also I barely even look at chicken breasts on a menu anymore, chicken (especially boneless/skinless breast) has become the tofu of the meat eaters world, it has no taste and barely and texture so unless it's in a curry or something forget about it. Speaking of curries I was thinking about indian delivery today and I could only find one place that does it in Ottawa and it looks kinda pricey, if anyone knows anywhere else post it in the comments if you please, I'm dying for a pizza/chinese alternative.

Getting back to my ever-growing produce garden, I think I could run a produce store one day, I think it would be fun, I could have a little cafe where I'd cook up seasonal produce and give away the recipes. I think if a produce store smelt more like food sales would go up up up! I could post my recipes online along with a preview of what we'd be serving in the week to come. I think I once heard the hard part was getting people in your door, the easy part is selling them something. Aren't I elequent?

Speaking of elequence I should come up with a catchy er... catch phrase for myself, gimme suggestions! Please, nothing as lame as Rob Fennie's "Good food rocks" and none of this Emril "wham bam thank you mam". It should be witty, intelligent, edgy and should also sum up my cooking style. Maybe something along the lines of:

"Oh GOD! My FINGER!!! Somebody find my FINGER!!!"
